Their overall impact is minimal. The trees and other vegetation are natural and building materials are as natural as can be found. They may use concrete block construction, bamboo and natural, easily renewable products rather than specialty woods, rare materials that are near extinction. You know, therefore, that if you visit one of these lodges, you are not supporting the waste and extinction of resources.

In most cases these eco-lodges are delightful! Some may go so far as to limit the use of electricity by turning lights off at night and not leaving the place flooded with lighting. Candles may be offered as a nigh-time alternative at. Is light really necessary? Nature does not turn on the lights at night. These facilities are often designed with solar, water or wind generated electricity. They may offer recycled items such as toilet paper and paper towels, hang out laundry to air dry, avoid the who internet wi-fi EMF pollution and not have a television in each room. Why go on vacation to occupy your time watching television, getting on Facebook and the internet. Instead, you can literally stop and smell the flowers, go for walks, read a good book, enjoy the company of others and converse. Go back to the basics being in and surrounded by nature.

For example, an airline will calculate the quantity of carbon-monoxide that was used on your flight, and they will plant a comparative dollar amount of trees (which is what made Costa Rica claim to be the first Carbon Neutral country) on your behalf. At least your airline trip gets “neutralized” in terms of expenditure. Be aware of hotels offering this same gimmick. In other words, don’t allow the expenditure of raw materials to be compensated by the planting of a tree. “Even” will not sustain our planet.

In conclusion, chose NATURE over Nurture, visit a like minded eco-place that will leave you feeling like, even on vacation, you are doing your part to enjoy and preserve the planet for others and your grandchildren.
